Summary

This Masterclass will focus on the current research on the Gut-Brain connection. It’s becoming clear that modulation of the microbiota may be key to resolving mental health issues which is an emerging area of specialization.

Could depression, anxiety and other mental health issues begin in the gut? Research on the relationship between the brain, behavior and the digestive system indicates the gut just might play a critical role in overall health. When GI issues are resolved, many people’s mental health issues also resolve.

As a result of enrolling in this Masterclass, learners will:

· Analyze and describe the basic physiology and research in the gut-brain-HPA axis;

· Recognize the overlap between digestive and mental health issues; and

· Identify dietary protocols and nutraceuticals to balance the gut-brain axis; and

· Recognize interventions that can be applied in clinical practice.
