Summary
General Biochemistry • MIT 7.05 General Biochemistry | Spring 2020
This course provides an in-depth look at biochemistry’s role in understanding the structure and functioning of organisms, tissues, and cells. Key topics include:
- Cellular Chemistry and Structure: Nucleic acids, proteins, and carbohydrates.
- Enzymology and Biochemical Reactions: Mechanisms in macromolecular synthesis and degradation, signaling, transport, and movement.
- General Metabolism: Carbohydrates, fats, amino acids, proteins, and related compounds.
The course consists of two parts. The first half, taught by Prof. Yaffe, is available on the MITx platform as 7.05x Biochemistry: Biomolecules, Methods, and Mechanisms. The OCW website focuses on the second half by Prof. Vander Heiden, which covers metabolism. Lecture topics include lipid synthesis, amino acid metabolism, and nucleotide metabolism.
The entire course including the latter half of Lecture Videos, Reading Recommendations, and Assignments, and Exams is downloadable for free on MIT OpenCourseWare.
Or you can sit back and enjoy the videos in this YouTube playlist which has these video lectures:
